City Staff discovered the failure of a 72-inch storm pipe along West Bay Drive in Downtown Largo. Engineering responded to a report of a large hole next to the roadway near Ulmer Park. Coordinating with the Public Works Department, staff barricaded the area for immediate safety. The City is working with a contractor to stabilize the failure and working to avoid damage to the nearby roadway or sewer system. The stabilization work will happen over the next few weeks in July and will provide a temporary fix to the larger issue of failing pipes due to age.

The Pinellas County Fertilizer Ban is in effect from June 1 through September 30, strictly prohibiting the sale or use of most lawn and landscape fertilizers as they contain Nitrogen and Phosphorous. Over 70% of Pinellas County waters contain excess amounts of these nutrients every year, causing harmful algae blooms that can even lead to fish kills. Excess nitrogen can lead to decreased water quality and can affect the health of the plants and animals that live in our local waterways.
