WHAT WE DO
The IT Department has a wide-range of specialized staff that maintains and supports a massive system consisting of telecommunications network infrastructure, servers thin clients laptops tablets and smartphones.
The Largo Cloud Desktop uses a customized graphical user interface that can be accessed from nearly any computer system. Most user terminals in the city boot direcly to the Largo Cloud Desktop, but it can also be accessed from Windows and Macs.
LOANER EQUIPMENT
The IT Department has great loaner equipment available to use for City business, from conferences to special events.
Security is the top priority for the City of Largo IT department and everyone's responsibility. We must work together to keep all information safe from hackers, phishing, or any other efforts to gain access to our digital information. IT will provide education to staff on how to spot and defend against those attempting to compromise our data or our systems.

- Provide knowledgeable support to the entire city
- Secure the network against hackers
- Offer specialized training
- Provide technical analysis, research and recommendations of city software and hardware purchases
- Maintain GIS Base Map and provide GIS Services and more

Work-A-Mile is a program to promote communication and cooperation between departments by providing an increased organizational understanding of what different internal services are offered throughout the City, and allowing for the sharing of different perspectives. It also builds morale as well as increases efficiency and effectiveness by fostering the transference of new ideas, in addition to expanding individual employees’ career exploration.
Any employee may shadow another employee in a department of their choice, with their supervisor’s permission, with consideration that resources are available to support the employee’s temporary absence. Employees can choose a half-day, full-day, or a few hours depending on availability. In addition, employees may shadow up to three different jobs per year.
To request to work a day in another department, fill out the form here. Prior to filling out the form, please discuss your availability with your supervisor.
The City will reimburse non-represented Full-time Regular and Part-time Regular employees after 6 months of employment, as follows:
- Up to $3,000 per fiscal year (full-time regular) and up to $1,500 per fiscal year (part-time regular) for college courses (including required prerequisite and remedial courses) leading to a degree from a college or university accredited by an agency that is recognized by the Council For Higher Education Assessment (CHEA)
- Up to $3,000 per fiscal year (full-time regular) and up to $1,500 per fiscal year (part-time regular) related to college courses (including required prerequisite and remedial courses) from a college or university accredited by an agency that is recognized by the Council For Higher Education Assessment (CHEA) that do not lead to a degree if the college courses have a direct relationship and benefit to the employee’s current position, as determined by the employee’s Department Director.
