City of Largo Joins National Campaign to Promote Smart Water Use

National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, April 1-30

Mayor Woody Brown is joining other mayors across the country in asking residents to take part in the 2022 Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation and help protect this vital resource.

The annual challenge runs from April 1- 30 and, encourages residents to use water more efficiently, reduce pollution, and save energy by taking a pledge at MyWaterPledge.com. Last year, residents from thousands of cities across the country pledged to reduce their water usage by nearly 3 billion gallons, helping to preserve the quality of our natural environment.

"As a leader who is committed to protecting the environment and promoting proactive sustainability measures, I am excited to support the 2022 Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation to bring awareness to one of our most valuable natural resources,” Mayor Brown said. “This annual challenge is a great opportunity to remind everyone to be mindful in practicing water conservation and explore new ways to reduce pollution runoff and limit waste throughout the year."

The Challenge goes beyond short term issues and looks at the ways our water use will affect the future of our communities, from how we manage our coasts, lakes, and rivers to reducing polluted runoff.

"I hope the City of Largo’s participation in the Water Challenge encourages all of us to be more water-wise in the many ways we consume and rely on water in our community,” Mayor Brown said. “By pledging your support, together we can protect this vital natural resource for future generations of Largo residents."

To participate, enter online at mywaterpledge.com, and make a pledge to conserve water on behalf of the City of Largo. Participants may be entered to win hundreds of environmentally friendly prizes, including $3,000 for home utilities, water-saving fixtures, and home improvement gift cards. By taking part, you can also nominate a deserving non-profit in the community to receive the grand prize of a new 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid.

This year features a new digital tool called MyVolunteer Water Project, that gives participants a unique way to do hands-on home, community, and workplace projects year-round in support of their city’s sustainability efforts.

The National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation is presented by the Wyland Foundation, with support from Toyota, the U.S EPA WaterSense, The Toro Company, and the National League of Cities.
