The City of Largo is committed to reducing our impact on the environment, supporting local business and providing equitable resource access in order to ensure a sustainable future for generations. Due to this commitment, certain single-use plastic items are restricted on City property because of their negative impacts on our local wildlife, the health of our community and our long-term economic vitality. City funds may not be used to purchase the following single-use items:

Turtle Plastic Bag·Styrofoam™ products (cups, plates, bowls, clamshells, to-go boxes, etc)
·Plastic straws and stirrers (including the use of bio-plastic straws)
·Plastic utensils
·Plastic plates, cups, and bowls for serving
·Plastic lids, trays, and similar single-use items
·Plastic bags with two handles, similar to grocery bags*

Ocean Friendly Vendors
Don't forget that when placing a catering order to mention that the City of Largo is going Ocean-Friendly and cannot accept these items. Try asking for paper or aluminum alternatives for large orders, or you can purchase your own for Departmental use.  Looking for someone to cater your next event or lunch? Check out the partner page from Ocean Allies that lists certified local ocean-friendly businesses. These vendors are not required to be used but they can provide a general idea on potential resources.

Please consider the best alternative for your event, giveaway or meeting which may be paper, plant or vegetable based, or any other natural, non-petroleum based product. These items and other eco-alternatives are common in many stores where we already shop, including:

·Auburn Supply Group local purchasing co-op
·Publix paper and Greenwise Items
·Sam's Club eco-friendly and paper products
·Webstaurant Store
·Target's Seventh Generation and paper products
·Office Depot's Green Book
·EcoPromotions sustainable giveaways

While the City does not suggest one product provider over another, this list represents where staff has recently purchased items. For more suggestions, questions or comments, please email [email protected].
